Thought I would share this timeline from an article about this beautiful aircraft.

History of NC8407
1929: Manufactured and purchased by Pitcairn Aviation (Eastern Air Transport) for passenger and mail service.
1930s: Operated in Cuba for Cubana Airlines and served as presidential transport for the Dominican Republic.
1950s: Returned to the U.S., refitted with powerful engines, and used as a "borate bomber" for aerial firefighting.
1973: Severely damaged when lifted and smashed to the ground during a thunderstorm at an EAA fly-in.
1973-1985: Undertook an extensive 12-year restoration by the EAA.
1985: Officially debuted after restoration at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh.
Present Day: Tours the U.S., offering passengers a rare ride on one of the few flying Tri-Motors.

He signed a copy of his book for me a few years ago, and he gave a presentation telling about his experiences during and after the war. He was a really nice guy and a great pilot.

From the rear I would think it is a MBB Bo 105

The correct registration is OK-GUL, the aircraft is a Czech microplane of the type Let-Mont Tulak

I agree with all the positive comments. There are a lot of Blue Angels photos out there, but this one is truly epic!

Stunning Photo!

Matt, my first thought was how much possible overlap could there be between the top and bottom speed of all of those aircraft to be able to pull that off…someone must be stretching either their top, or bottom, or both!

I've seen several of the "legacy" flights, but my favorite (video, not live) was (not a Corsair, i wish i remembered) flying like a bat out of hell with a F14 wingman trying very hard not to stall. Both were perfect of course. Great piloting...

Actually got a model B17 signed by Bud Anderson, It's amazing to see people fly their P51's under his name.

What I really want to know is what lens were you using and from where were you shooting from. Great shot.

The Activity Log below shows the type to be B773, not the ER version.

ICAO seems to not have a type designator for this aircraft.

It's a MiG-23 not 27. Fatter nose for radar, and the variable intake ramps are giveaways.

I really like this paint. It looks classy. And you snapped a pair of ***** pics of it. Bravos!!

Written on 04/09/2025 by Gary Schenauer

Hey, Alien, you are absolutely right. But I must admit, I had seen photos of it after the hurricane - generated damage and the fuselage was penetrated AND a wing was (just about) severed, so it would have been enormously expensive to fund repairs to that extent. To be honest, it was far wiser to do a W/O with it. But still, .... it was a shorty Queen ... (sad smile) ...
Yo, Boss, you are correct that this one DID go to The Hansc from here, but it wasn't on the day I snapped this pic. A few days after I saw (and clicked it) here, it returned. It was on a Sunday, the day AFTER the Burning Man was burned. I was back on the apron and saw it waiting for BM attendees to arrive at RNO from the Black Rock Desert. I didn't snap it again since I had a bunch of pics from a couple of days earlier when I had seen it (the day I took this). But while I was on the ramp on Sunday, I asked if it was going to go to Las V and I was told it was going to go to the east coast. I checked it about 90 minutes later and it was enroute to Bedford. TY for the compli.
